Aprilia has revealed the new SXR GT 125 and SXR GT 175 in India ahead of their market launch in October. The two scooters bring back the SXR name after the earlier SXR 125 and SXR 160 were discontinued from the market. This time around, Aprilia is shaping the range around a GT scooter concept, with the focus on everyday city riding as well as longer journeys. Both models get revised bodywork, a new footboard design and their own colour options.
The larger Aprilia SXR GT 175 sits at the top of the new range and gets a 175 cc engine. Its powertrain is closely related to the 174.7 cc single-cylinder unit used in the SR 175. In that scooter, the engine produces 13.26 hp at 7,200 rpm and 14.14 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Aprilia has not revealed the final India-spec output figures for the SXR GT 175 yet. Bookings for both scooters are now open across India.
The SXR GT 125, meanwhile, gets the smaller engine option. The previous SXR 125 used a 124.45 cc single-cylinder motor that produced around 9.6 PS. Aprilia has not confirmed the specifications of the new engine yet, although the GT version could get a different state of tune.
Visually, the new GT models are quite different from the earlier SXR scooters. They feature a large front fairing, Aprilia’s LED lighting, a wide seat, fresh graphics and a redesigned footboard with a more open layout. Aprilia says the riding position has been designed with both city commuting and longer rides in mind. At the same time, the scooters retain the maxi-scooter proportions that were a key part of the previous SXR range.
The colour options are also different for each model. The SXR GT 125 will be offered in Matte Black, Glossy Azzurro and Glossy White. The SXR GT 175, on the other hand, gets Metallic Blue, Matte Black and Matte Green. This brings the total to six colour choices across the two scooters, with Matte Black being the only shade shared by both.
The earlier SXR 125 and SXR 160 came equipped with 12-inch wheels, a 220 mm front disc brake, telescopic front suspension, a single rear shock absorber, digital instrumentation, LED lighting, USB charging and a 7-litre fuel tank. Several of these features are expected to continue on the new SXR GT 175, although Aprilia is yet to confirm the complete specifications.
With the SXR GT 125 and SXR GT 175, Aprilia is bringing the SXR name back to its Indian scooter lineup with two engine options. The new 175 cc model will sit in a more premium space and go up against scooters such as the Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160 and the recently launched Honda ADV 160.
