Jaguar Type 01 Electric Grand Tourer Unveiled, Gets 1,030hp And 720km Range

Jaguar Type 01

British luxury carmaker Jaguar has unveiled the production-ready Type 01, its controversial new four-door electric grand tourer, in New York. Prices start at £130,000, which is around Rs 1.66 crore. Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 will open in early 2027.

The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar to use the company’s dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). The platform has been developed separately from the electric architecture used by the upcoming Range Rover EV, with the two sharing no components or underlying platform.

Jaguar Type 01: Battery, Range And Performance

The Jaguar Type 01 uses an 850-volt electrical architecture and gets a 120kWh NMC battery pack, of which 118kWh is usable. Jaguar claims a WLTP range of up to 720km on a single charge.

Charging is also a key part of the package. With a 350kW DC fast charger, the Type 01 can gain up to 321km of range in around 13 minutes. A 10 to 80% charge takes approximately 22 minutes.

Power comes from three electric motors, producing up to 1,030hp and 1,365Nm of peak torque. The Type 01 can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. It also gets rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring, while Jaguar says the car was developed with the XK120, E-Type and previous-generation XJ in mind.

Jaguar Type 01: Interior

The Type 01’s cabin retains one of the most distinctive elements from the Type 00 concept, the central spine running through the middle of the cabin. Finished in a brass-like material, it stretches towards the rear and separates all four occupants, extending much further than a conventional centre console.

The driver gets a large display, while the passenger screen seen on the Type 00 concept has been dropped for the production car. In its place is a flat surface, while a slim tablet-style display on the centre console controls functions such as temperature and media volume.

The steering wheel features chunky spokes and a slatted lower section inspired by the rear grilles seen on the Type 00. The control stalks have also been integrated into a single bar positioned behind the steering wheel.

Why Is It Called The Jaguar Type 01?

Jaguar is now positioned as JLR’s all-electric luxury brand, while Range Rover, Defender and Discovery will continue with a mix of combustion, hybrid and electric powertrains.

The “Type” name is a nod to iconic Jaguars such as the Type D and Type E. The “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” signifies the first model in Jaguar’s new generation of cars.

Production of the Type 01 is scheduled to begin in 2027 at JLR’s Solihull plant in the UK. Its electric drive units and battery packs will be supplied from the company’s facility in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will come from the Halewood plant in Merseyside.
